Municipal council visits the school garden
The daily municipal council of Schouwen-Duiveland made a special visit to the green school gardens and squares in Bruinisse. They were received there by students from the greener primary schools CBS Op Dreef, OBS de Meerpaal and the Rev. Pieter van Dijkeschool.
After a warm welcome, the children took the council on a tour of their renovated playgrounds. They proudly pointed out the green play areas and enthusiastically talked about the changes. A ball was passed on the ping-pong table and councillor Ankie Smit even walked on wooden stilts for a while. The moment at the spot where the fence stood between CBS Op Dreef and OBS De Meerpaal was special. “We used to have to talk to each other through the fence,” said one student. “Now we can just play with everyone!”
After the tour, the board arrived at the shared school garden of three primary schools, located in the courtyard of the In 't Opper care center. Here, under the guidance of NME SD vegetable garden coach Gertie Bin, the students receive 15 lessons of school gardening instruction. During the board visit, the final lesson in the garden was underway: the harvest lesson!
