Bruinisse then and now

Our village also had to pay its toll. Lost many a feather in the war And many who lived here before, Didn't recognize the old village anymore. The big church was shot to pieces And broken down, brick by brick. The same goes for the many old houses, Those years stood around it. The nice sidewalks with the fences, Which everyone had in front of his house, They are gone; there are now Sidewalks like in the big city. And then that Saturday hustle and bustle From sanding streets and such. The fine smell of the harbour And boats came from paint and tar. It has disappeared. The village is quieter. Not as fun as it used to be. No more boys standing on the corners, No girls doing the rounds. No mountain of oil nut shells Lying on the street, it's quite slippery: They are too expensive, the youth enjoy them now Much more of ice cream and fries. There are now beautiful new houses, There, where gardens used to be found With lots of space and lots of sunlight; Not so gloomy and stuffy anymore. There are now beautiful new streets, This is necessary for fast traffic. But stroll quietly as before, That is definitely no longer possible here. Many strange people live there now In our village, which you often see. But you often hear questions, Who is that? I don't know him. The whole world has changed; So why not Bruinisse? Many good things have come. It just depends on how you see it Party in BRU - 500 years of existence - There is a lake on the Grevelingen . the old fishing village of Bru And because it is five centuries old, there is a party for me and you. Chorus: Yes, it's a party in Brussels. like it has never been Yes, it's a party in Brussels. like it has never been Gentlemen in the old fashion of five hundred years ago Walking with their ladies now through the decorated village. Chorus: Ladies with their fine clothes out good old days See you walking with their children or their old faithful maid. Chorus: Strangers have come, celebrate with us happy in spirit Very pleasant and satisfied cheerfully celebrated this joyful celebration. Chorus: Bruse ladies, Bruse gentlemen, boys, girls, all youth From Bruinisse be happy now because it does us all good. Chorus: That Bruinisse the mussel village, where their cradle once stood On the old Zeeland clay soil, has now existed for five centuries. Chorus: The song can be sung to the tune: “Dutch flag, you are my glory” The song can also easily be set to music as “See the moon shining through the trees”. From the Old Box of Mrs. A. Wiebrens-Beckman. Published by the municipal council of Bruinisse.
