Man drives car stuck in dry ditch Bruinisse
BRUINISSE - In the early morning hours, a major alarm was raised after a report of a car in the water along the Hoogerwerfsweg near Bruinisse. Ultimately, the situation turned out to be less serious than initially feared.
The report of a car in the water came in to the control room around 5.50 am on Friday morning. Because it was unclear whether anyone was still in the vehicle, many emergency services were deployed as a precaution, including several fire stations and diving teams from the region. The Bruinisse and Oosterland fire brigades and various support units were also alerted.
On site it turned out that the car was not actually in the water. The vehicle had partly ended up in a small, dry ditch and the driver was safely on the side. According to the Zeeland Safety Region (VRZ), there were no injuries and no one had to be freed from the vehicle. All deployed units then returned to their posts.
The cause of the incident is believed to be steering error. The driver reportedly attempted to cut a section of the road and thought he could drive past some posts. The Toyota skidded off the road and ended up partially in the ditch. No further incident response was required.
